[Interview] Zhang Qian of New Element Medical Care: I am an Asset-goer in Terms of Chronic Disease Management

IYIOU asks Zhang: Why does New Element Medical Care choose the “valuing asset” mode when building its layout of chronic disease management services? Zhang Qian started its career by computer industry, spending six years of wireless network research in Microsoft Research. In 2005, she taught in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Do you know the value of a health management service package?

It's hard to tell if the era guides Zhang Qian, or she is guiding the era.

In 2013, health service industry had been known by the public gradually. Commercial health insurance and health management service became the important development directions of economic development. Who will pay for the service?

Zhang Qian tells IYIOU that chronic disease management schemes shall be formulated by famous doctors and specialists, executed by disease managers and implemented by health managers. Only when the whole course is accomplished, “standardization” of service can be ensured, but the “standardization” shall have a premise of “reproducibility”. Next, New Element will spread its layout in Beijing and Shanghai.

"Who will pay for the service?" Zhang Qian asked: "The parts hate to see user sick are user themselves and insurance companies. When New Element contacts insurance companies, they are all very glad and state that service is helping insurance industry to return to its real function of prevention."

It is reported that insurance companies in many other countries build their own hospitals and health management companies to ensure customer health as an approach of risk control. The essence of insurance is prevention rather than compensation as most of us believed. In China, however, commercial insurance as a new player is facing the problem of no risk control by professional health management players, therefor no corresponding insurance products.
